Rio On Watch: Providência - 115 Years of Struggle

Brazil’s 1st and most historic favela, Morro da Providência, is being disfigured in name of Rio de Janeiro’s Port Revitalization project and the 2016 Olympics. Over 30% of homes are marked for eviction, with some 70% of the homes at the very top marked. Photographers Maurício Hora and Diego de Deus are featured in this video by Haimy Assefa, calling attention to the historic importance and current plight of the community.
